No, it isn’t that Bambi. This is actually another installment in the Twisted Chilhdood Universe. First we saw Winnie the Pooh break bad. And a sequel. Then came Peter Pan. Now it’s Bambi. And I have to say that in general I don’t have an issue with the TCU and what they are trying to do.
Were I to rank the current installments, I would say Peter Pan Neverland Nightmare is the best of them. Pooh #2 was decent, but Pooh #1 less so. And then we have Bambi. To be honest, this is a movie that shouldn’t have been made. Not because it taints the animated property. But because there isn’t a story here. The setup is of deer generations dying and this particular one mutating into a monster that is going to get revenge. And to be clear the “dying” is more along the lines of them being killed by humans. Of course.
And then mutant deer starts killing people.
But I never cared. Because nothing in this movie is worth caring about.
The most interesting moment was when a fluffle of bunnies attacked the jerk Harrison. Apparently they are also mutated. But alas, the interesting moment was fleeting and then it got back to the deer killing people. And people trying to kill it. But I never cared. Nobody in the movie was likeable.
I’m writing this because I like the idea of the TCU, but this movie is very not worth watching.
So yeah. Black star.
