Undersea Hero by Ian Chase Nichols

Rating: 10 out of 10.

I first met Ian Chase Nichols about 10 years ago. At the time, I was part of the creative writing team working on the Tick 2017 comic, and Ian was doing work with NEC in that book series as well as working on the San Diego Comic Con exclusives.

Moving from that to current events…

I had seen live videos from Ian periodically over the past year. Those live videos were introducing people to the new comic he was creating. The main character of the book is Undersea Hero, a wholly original creation by Ian. One that differentiates itself from the Tick but certainly lives in the same comedic type of world that the Tick exists in. The villain Coralator is intent on finding Undersea Hero and getting revenge on him for the past transgressions thrust upon him as his crimes were thwarted by Undersea Hero. And to a lesser extent Liquid Lad, the crime fighting sidekick to Undersea Hero

This is a fun light world Ian built. You’re not going to get the sort of dark and gritty stories that many comics are embracing in recent years. Those books would never dare to insert a musical scene midway through the tale! This book will entertain you and make you laugh, at times in that order and (brace for it) sometimes in an entirely different order. I think we can all agree this is something we could all use much more of lately. I highly recommend checking out this book if humor and fun are things you enjoy. I’m giving this a 10 star rating, and any lesser stars could only come from those who don’t like fun!

The site has been fighting me lately. I have been able to implant videos here before, but now it won’t let me. This is a fun video of Ian working on the art.
