Suzume is an interesting anime by Makoto Shinkai, starring Nanoka Hara (Suzume), Hokuto Matsumura (Souta), and Eri Fukatsu (Tamaki) set in modern day Japan where Suzume discovers a door to the afterlife, and after accidentally releasing the keystone which guarded the doorway, Suzume found herself skipping school, and effectively running away from home to be alongside Souta, who is working on sealing doors to the afterlife in various ruined parts of Japan, to prevent a giant supernatural worm from escaping and wrecking havoc on the world.
The back and forth between the world most of humanity lives within, and Suzume’s seeing the world as it is, with sight and interaction with the entities from the underworld that most of the rest of humanity cannot, is interesting since as you might imagine there are times where she is affected by something and everyone else around her is just looking at her like she’s Edward Norton in Fight Club just throwing herself around and reacting to things that aren’t there.
This movie is fun and visually very beautiful. 7/10 stars.
