Doctor Who: The Interstellar Song Contest is the penultimate-ish episode (last 2 episodes are a 2 part story) which takes us to a space station 800 years in the future to well, an interstellar song contest which 3trillion people tune into every year. The Doctor gets pissed, we don’t get to see that often, but when 3 trillion lives are at stake how could he not. This episode centers around the damaged caused by capitalism when whole planets and their people hold a unique commodity that a corporation wants all to itself.
We finally get some answers about Mrs. Flood. Although there are questions that stem from those answers. I think the vindicator might be the very thing that’s caused the destruction of the Earth in 2025. I have no clue who Mrs. Flood could be anymore, or if it even is someone we’ve seen before. In a slight spoiler, we find out she is a time lord. There was a lot of speculation online that she was one of the gods but that’s debunked by the post credits scene’s reveal that she’s a time lord. It could be the Master, though I doubt it. The Master hasn’t ever really broken the 4th wall before that I’m aware of. Granted time lords haven’t ever broken the 4th wall a ton, they have done it (First was Hartnell wishing the viewers a merry Christmas during a Christmas special in 1965).
I always enjoy getting to see the wrath of the doctor, he went a tad overboard this episode but he came back from it. I have a feeling we will be seeing some wrath in the finale as well as he saves Earth (or doesn’t, I don’t know yet. Spoilers.).
7 stars.
