Venom: The Last Dance is both good and mediocre. All the action is great however the actions taken throughout this were often counterintuitive. To start, we’re introduced to Knull, the creator of symbiotes and xenophages, who is locked away on Klyntar, his only hope of escape to find and bring a codex (created when a symbiote brings its host back from the dead) back to the planet to be released. Xenophages are specifically designed to be predators of symbiotes. For some reason despite this, Xenophages can track a codex while the symbiote is in its true form, but cant otherwise distinguish between living creatures (symbiotes included).
When a Xenophage shows up on Earth and attacks Eddie and Venom, Venom immediately points out the fact that they have a codex and so they will have to make sure they do not turn into their regular form to ensure they cannot be tracked. Shortly after this an army special forces team shows up and actively tries to kill Eddie and capture Venom. Cut to like 15 minutes later after Eddie and Venom run into an old friend, Venom decides to throw caution to the wind and transform in order to have a dance party. Eddie even points out that Venom just told him they have to make sure not to transform, but Venom doesn’t care. The Xenophage tracks them down, then the army shows up again. This time the army knows about Knull and the codex, yet now that they have a reason to kill Eddie, once they separate and capture both Eddie and Venom, they take Eddie into custody. Feels like some plot armor.
I don’t feel like I can go much more in depth without getting into spoilers, so I’ll pretty much end here. This movie isn’t BAD, its just not very good. This movie is very average, and the action is doing a LOT of heavy lifting. 5 stars, and honestly if you’re not a huge fan of Venom I think you can afford to skip it.
