Something in the Walls

Rating: 7 out of 10.

Something in the Walls is a relatively new novel by Daisy Pearce following Mina Ellis a child psychologist who is approached by journalist Sam Hunter about investigating Alice Webber, a thirteen year old living in the town of Banathel who claims to be haunted by a witch, in an extremely superstitious town with a long history rooted in witches and riddance rituals to get rid of them. This psychological thriller is a quick fun read… well I say fun but it does get rather dark towards the end. My only real complaint is that one main part of the book goes unresolved.

If you don’t mind some spoilers read on, otherwise skip this paragraph. It seems like with how the book ended, the darkness in Banathel is just a combination of superstition and mass hallucination. This doesn’t explain all of the weird things Sam & Mina experience though. I feel like it can only explain away some of the supernatural things that happened. It feels like this ends a happy-ish ever after and that the bewitched Alice is now fine.

Like I said it’s a good read. This left me generally wanting to read more from this author despite leaving me wanting and a tad annoyed that every thread didn’t feel closed.
