Daredevil: Born Again

Rating: 10 out of 10.

What a fantastic show. While I wouldn’t say Disney has been exactly hit or miss in my opinion on the Marvel shows, they have been a bit “hit or not awful”, so I’ll admit I was a bit worried about the potential for them to end up toning it down a bit with the “We’re Disney, we want everything we own to be all ages friendly” excuse they’ve given on some things in the past. They did not pull any punches here, at some points this show got extremely bloody and it was fantastic. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are back at it and continuing to give it all they’ve got!

My only real gripe about season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, is the fight scene in episode 1 between Daredevil and Bullseye, it just looked like bad CGI & not very well shot fight choreography. To be fair though, having a several minute long continuous shot fight scene is not easy by any stretch. Born Again is a continuation of the previously established Daredevil/Marvel universe, Kingpin Wilson Fisk is back in the public eye, runs and is elected for mayor. Fisk takes a step back exiting the criminal world to focus on his view of bettering New York by declaring all vigilantes violent criminals that need stopped after a concerned citizen Hector Ayala (The White Tiger) stops 2 off duty police officers from assaulting a CI on a subway platform, one of those officers ends up falling onto the tracks and dying, fueling the NYPD and Fisk’s public outcry against vigilantes. You don’t have to watch the previous stuff to follow this show, but I would recommend watching the previous seasons of Daredevil & Punisher first if you haven’t.

If you enjoyed the Netflix Daredevil series, or frankly any marvel content you’ll love this. If not for the one weird fight scene in the first bit of the show I’d be giving this a gold star, I don’t see how it could get much better beyond that one scene. I look forward to more Daredevil (and Punisher, Defenders, She-Hulk, etc.)

10 stars, they really knocked this out of the park.
