I stumbled upon The Hot Spot while scrolling through Netflix last week and it’s a fairly entertaining, fun, light sci-fi/fantasy series. Single mother and hotel worker Kiyomi Endou (Mikako Ichikawa) discovers her coworker Kousuke Takahashi (Akihiro Kakuta) is an alien after he swoops in saving her from being struck by a truck. Takahashi doesn’t want anyone to know that he’s an alien, afraid of an E.T. situation where the government could come after him, he tries to just live a quiet life. After having to reveal his true nature to Endou to prevent her being struck by a truck, Takahashi and Endou find themselves trying to navigate keeping Takahashi’s secret while various situations continue to arise causing him to need to use his powers for one reason or another.

If you’re needing a light watch good for a chuckle here and there I highly recommend this. Beyond Takahashi’s ability to augment his physical abilities there are almost no other sci-fi/fantasy aspects to this show, it’s really primarily a J-drama/comedy.
