Summer approaches. Many of us find ourselves with more time and seeking out more things to read, watch, and play. Here’re a few of the things we’re looking forward to this summer.
Books

The one things coming out this summer that must top our list is Josh Malerman’s Incidents Around the House. This paranormal tale of a haunting focuses on the experience of an 8-year-old girl whose home is haunted both by the specter of a destabilizing family and by an entity called “Other Mother.” For me, this sounds like a darker version of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline. Look for it on June 25.

Billed as “Mulan meets Iron Widow,” Amber Chen’s Of Jade and Dragons, coming June 18, is one of the books I’m most anticipating this year. This book follows an aspiring engineer as she deals with her father’s murder and her own ambitions. At its core, this one looks to be a murder mystery and revenge plot in an engendered political system.
Movies

I don’t know about you, but the movie I’ve been anticipating all year is Longlegs. It had social media abuzz as people tried to decipher the name of the film from cryptic logographs. Although you wouldn’t have known it from those mysterious early trailers, Longlegs is an occult serial killer story focused on an FBI agent racing against the clock to prevent the next killing. Oddly, the trailers may have set the bar too high for the film to live up to, but it’s certainly caught our attention. Now that its July 12 release is around the corner, I’m more eager than ever to head to the theater.

We can’t not discuss Deadpool & Wolverine. This one’s going to be in theaters on July 26. I’ve had some trouble finding anything particularly clear about the plot, but the villain is Professor Xavier’s twin sister (sort of), Cassandra. Because it’s Deadpool, because it’s Wolverine, I don’t think the lack of plot details will keep anybody from going to see it.
Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate that the trailer game this year is so strong?
Games
I know we don’t really do video games here, but I also have to drop a note that Elden Ring and Elder Scrolls Online are both getting DLC drops in June.
