Get Out, written and directed by Jordan Peele, produced by Blumhouse, and starring Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams is a fantastic psychological thriller and absolutely worth the watch. Get Out released back in 2017 and if you, like me missed this movie it is worth the watch. This is a very well written movie and the tone is set just right that this movie is a gripping, yet light horror movie, relying on Chris’s (Daniel Kaluuya) paranoia and the clear tones of all not being as they seem to keep you invested, and wondering what is up with Rose’s (Allison WIlliams) family.
Get Out follows Chris Washington and his girlfriend Rose Armitage going on a trip to meet her family, and Chris is on edge and apropos to meeting them out the gate. Upon arrival at their rather large estate Chris notices immediately that something is off about the whole atmosphere of the place and the way that the help act. My biggest gripe with the film is that when Chris’s friend is attempting to get help out to him and brings up a hair brained scheme about hypnotism , brainwashed sex slaves, and an active missing person who he has photo evidence of being there, the officers laugh him out of the room. To be fair I’m not upset at him being laughed out of the room, it is quite ludicrous, however I’m not a fan that they don’t bother to at least consider the safe(?) missing person. Perhaps its the dispatcher in me that is struggling to suspend disbelief there, but the officers would at least be required to follow up or refer out to local law enforcement where the property is to attempt to put eyes on the missing person to be removed from criminal justice systems as a missing person.
I give this movie 8 of 10 stars, and can absolutely see myself watching this again in the future.
