Dragons of Fate: Dragonlance Destinies Vol. 2

Rating: 10 out of 10.

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have managed an absolute wonder with this novel. Dragons of Fate is the second book in the Dragonlance Destinies series which has at least one more book to come. If you haven’t read Dragons of Deceit (the first book of the series), there will be spoilers to that within this review.

Picking up where Dragons of Deceit left off, Destina, Tasslehoff, Sturm, and Raistlin find themselves trapped in the middle of the Third Dragon War with the Graygem, right at its apex when the armies of Takhisis are preparing to attack the High Clerist’s tower. Historically, this battle is what ultimately spelled defeat for the goddess of darkness. The heroes Huma Dragonbane and his trusty war wizard Magius giving their lives to save the lands from Takhisis’ dark forces. Despite identifying their need to maintain a low profile and avoid doing any damage to the timeline while they work on trying to get back to their own time, being trapped in the middle of a battlefield among heroes of legend at the turning point in a massive war, they’ve got their work cut out for them trying to avoid irreparable damage.

With Tas being involved that’s basically an impossible task… Especially considering after meeting Huma and Magius, and the group becoming fast friends with them, Tas decides he wants to “save the song” (The song being the stories bards would sing about Huma and his tragic death saving the world). After all, how could Tas sit back and do nothing knowing his new friends were going to die soon? You know, Kender doing Kender things, timeline be damned. Among all that happened, all the damage both caused and avoided the ending caught me off guard.

I had trouble putting down this book at times. Most of the time when I read I do so when going to bed, so yeah I lost sleep some nights. This was such a good read! 10 stars all the way, absolutely cannot wait for the third book!
